A Very British Christmas

For Christmas, I was lucky enough to get invited to be a part of Michael's family Christmas. We started out on Christmas Eve with a lovely meal and our party hats on. For those in the USA, at Christmas here in the UK, you open up a Christmas cracker (essentially playing tug of war with the person next to you and who ever gets the bigger end of the cracker wins the prize) and inside the cracker, you put on your Christmas hat. It is very very festive and fun.

Here Michael and Tucker enjoy some time by the fire.....

It is Christmas morning and the gifts are ready to be opened.

Tucker and I are hoping that Santa found his way to us in the country.

Michael's dad opens some British whiskey and is very happy with his gift.

Tucker gets a Christmas hug from Michael's sister Sarah.

For Christmas lunch (dinner or tea - I seriously can never figure out which one means which meal here) we have a new set of hats. I was a four time loser in the cracker game by the way. It must be because I'm not British.

On Boxing Day - the day after Christmas - we go for another British tradition - a walk! I think I've mentioned it before that the Brits are great about public paths, hiking, walking. We weren't the only ones out and enjoying the snow. It was a good way to make some room for more Christmas pudding.

Michael's mom takes a photo while Tucker looks for treats hidden in the snow.

Lastly, Boxing Day dinner and another round of hats. I lost again! Overall, a lovely Christmas and I couldn't have felt more welcomed.

Last year we celebrated Christmas with my sister and her new husband, who is from Scotland. The hats and crackers are obviously a tradition in the whole of the UK because we were all over that. A fun tradition though. We incorporated the crackers in our Christmas this year.

It looks like you're enjoying your stay! I hope to get over there this year!
