Green Commuter

Sorry for the delay in blogging but I've been away on my annual spring break trip to Italy. I've got some great photos from that trip including some new places. Hopefully I'll get that organized this weekend and get a few travel posts up. In the mean time, I changed the commute around a bit.

Due to some inclement weather, I decided to give the bus a try. I've got a 5 minute walk from the house to pick up the Green Line from Windsor into London.

Since they pulled out the double decker bus, I played tourist for the ride to work and happily sat on the top. However, the highway wasn't really that exciting so I did some work instead. Blech.

The good news is the bus drops me 5 minutes from work as well so it's a really good commute. Short walk, comfortable ride, I can read or work on the bus and then short walk on the other side. If not for the randomness of traffic, I think the bus might be my preferred method of travel.

Okay, enough of my commute. I'm back in travel / exploration mode so more fun to come...

Fish Food

On Friday night I was heading to meet some friends in a part of London I had yet to explore. I came upon this shop which use fish to clean off your feet and hands. !!!!!

I couldn't help but to think of cleaner shrimp out in the wild. Unfortunately, I was running out of time or I would have gone in to properly experience having fish give me a manicure or pedicure.

Instead I just took pictures through the shop window. Here you can see this girl with her feet in the fish tank. I wonder if the pet store will start trying to do this as well? An interseting use of their inventory.....

Commuting Duathlon

The new job comes with a new commute. Although there are a vast combination of ways to get to my job in central London, here is my new favorite.

Step 1: Grab the mountain bike from the rack and use it for the commute to the Windsor train station

Step 2: Toodle along the river and enjoy the view. Reality: am late for train so pedal like mad for two minutes.

Step 3: Roll into the train station and get covered, train side parking. For any of my past Kmart consulting colleagues, anyone remember that trek from the parking lot to the building? One day I clocked it at 10 minutes. Much better here....

Step 4: Hop off the train in Richmond and unleash trusty stead #2. The new city commuter bike is ready to roll.

Step 5: The city commute is actually scenic for a bit. I get to roll by Kew Gardens while hanging out in a bike lane.

Another trip by the river - I'm crossing the bridge and get another view of the Thames a meer 40 minutes after the first view.

Step 6: Arrive at work and enter the secret code to lock up my trusty commuter in our sheltered and gated bicycle storage at work.

I'm not the only one who thinks riding in on two wheels is much better... There you have it, my new commute. Also, most importantly, my plea to all my readers - PLEASE watch out for cyclists when you drive and a bike lane is not for driving your car in. I wear my trusty helmet for a reason but I really don't want to use it. I like my new commute so as they teach us as kids 'Safety First!' :o)

Yep, I Lost

This is what I found after coming out of the bath tub. Looks like I am going to have to get creative to win my seat back.

A Very Large Dog Bed

The first of my new furniture pieces arrived this. I bought what I would consider a 'double wide' chair.
I'm very excited to have an alternative to the inflatable blue sofa. However, I'm not the only one.

I came home the other day to my running shoe and afghan on the chair. It appears that a certain furry body has decided this is now a very large dog bed. I think we are going to be fighting for who gets to sit in the chair this weekend.

Virtual Loser

You may recall that my family is into bowling. Unfortunately, since this year we spent Christmas in four different time zones, we were unable to compete for the coveted Trophy in person. Therefore, Wii Bowling was put forth as an alternative.

Based on my score, I vote for going back to REAL bowling next year. (Side note: yes, it has taken me three months to actually bowl. As you can tell by my score, for good reason!) I vow to get my name engraved on that trophy next year!!!!!

A Full Rack

Before your mind goes into the gutter again, we are talking bicycles here. I've completed the collection as I've picked up another bike to use in the daily commute. I'm now the proud owner of a single speed (with crazy reflective trim). Therefore the four bike rack is now full.

Although, the new bike is going to live in the train station on the London side of the commute (a post about that soon) so after I take it into town, I'll be down to only three bikes housed at home. You know what that means, right? Time to get another bike....... ;o)
